Venice Sights, Sounds and Hotels

The Bridge of Sighs was already long in existence, but it was only in the 17th Century that it was given this name. The reason it was given this name was because this bridge connected the prisoners to the courtrooms where their sentences were given, and as they passed over the bridge, the prisoners sighed at the fact that it may be the last time they would see the city and the Grand Canal. The Bridge of sings did not only have negative aspects to it, it also had romantic sense. Lover's would take a gondola down the canal at night and when the moon was shining on the water, it would create this beautiful pink hue. Young lovers favour its romantic ambience and many believe that a young couples love will last forever if they kiss under the bridge, whilst in a gondola.
